Last week Adobe released an experimental technology “Wallaby” in labs, which converts Flash FLA files into the HTML5. This sounds great because many of us were looking forward to convert our flash application into HTML-5 to enable to view in iOS devices. Unfortunately technology is not so advanced to do all things which we do in Flash, especially the action script. I’m sure most of us will not be able to utilize this technology at this stage and I doubt if Adobe will go ahead with this to next stage.
I did some quick work with this and results were awesome when you compare with any first pre release version. It help all those users who wanted to convert their small animated movie in HTML and run it in iOS. I quickly review the key supported features and found that some of the key features are still missing for us to convert our production level application. Masking is partially implemented and most of our Flash application does use it.
The level were Flash is today I think this technology will not help much for us, at least for me. We are using Flash platform to develop advance application and our target customers are using desktop/browser. Moving those level of application is iOS doesn’t make much sense and at some level it requires change in the user flow to cater these small screen devices. Which means re-developing most of the UI screen and it is always prefer to use native language to do so.
Key advantage for us is to code once and deploy it on all mobile devices. Today we can achieve if we use Flex Hero AIR2.5 but it is not supported in iOS. Is there any way by which I can convert this source base to iOS version?
